Applies to: Drury-managed laptops used off-campus. If your computer is already connected to the Drury network, this issue doesn't apply to you.
If you recently changed your Drury password while working remotely, your laptop may still only accept your old password — even though the new one works fine for email, Canvas, or other Drury services.
Why this happens: Your laptop is a member of Drury's domain and stores a local copy of your credentials so you can log in without a network connection. When you change your password, that change is made on Drury's servers — but your laptop won't know about it until it can talk to those servers again. Think of it like cutting a new key without telling the lock: the new key is valid, but the lock hasn't been changed yet.
Do not repeatedly retry your new password on the laptop. Since the laptop still only recognizes your old password until it syncs, typing the new one over and over can lock your Drury account. Use your old password to log in to the laptop until you've completed one of the options below.
This is the simplest fix for most people:
If you have Drury VPN access, you can fix this without coming to campus:
Important: Until this step is completed, network shares and other domain-dependent resources will not work correctly, even if VPN is connected.
Still prompted for the old password after reconnecting to campus Wi-FiMake sure the laptop has fully restarted after connecting, and that it's connected to Drury Wi-Fi or a wired connection, not a personal hotspot.
VPN is connected, but locking and unlocking doesn't accept the new passwordDouble check the VPN connection is still active (it can silently disconnect). If it's connected and this still doesn't work, contact the Help Desk.
Account gets locked outThis usually means the new password was retried too many times before the laptop had a chance to sync. Contact the Help Desk to unlock your account, then follow Option 1 or Option 2 above.
